400-pound Baylor TE throws first pitch at Rangers’ game

We have all seen some pretty awful first pitches in recent years. Remember 50 Cent’s infamous flop on the mound that was described as “just a bit outside”? Or how about Carli Rae Jepsen’s pitch that made me 1. ashamed to be a Rays fan and 2. didn’t make me want to “call her maybe.”

Well, this pitch is not a terrible one, but it is memorable because it may be the largest person to ever throw one.

LaQuan McGowan: You guys know that name right? No? Well, Baylor fans certainly do.

McGowan is the 400-pound Bears tight end, yes tight end, that broke onto the national scene in the Cotton Bowl against the Michigan State Spartans in January. As it turns out, McGowan could be the next C.C. Sabathia after he threw the first pitch out for the Texas Rangers Friday night.

Now of course, his pitching motion isn’t at the caliber of one Sabathia, but it is slightly impressive for a man of his stature. You be the judge.

Now, I am no pitching coach, but I’d say that McGowan, with a little training, could be the next great two-sport athlete. Someone needs to get Baylor coach Art Briles on the phone and tell him to start working on “The World’s Largest Trick Play” and let McGowan chuck one down the field. Give the big guy a chance!
