Just when you thought Donald Trump couldn’t sink any lower or become any more of a running joke, he has once again raised the bar. Not only did Trump announce his intention to run for president on the Republican ticket in 2016, but he used Neil Young’s “Keep On Rockin’ in the Free World” as his song of choice!
Naturally, Young is not happy about it. Mother Jones reached out to him for comment, but his manager Elliot Roberts kept the response short and sweet.
“Donald Trump’s use of ‘Rockin’ in the Free World’ was not authorized. Mr. Young is a longtime supporter of Bernie Sanders.”
I have no clue who I’ll be voting for in 2016, but all I can say to Mr. Trump is this: You’re FIRED! I’m sorry, but if one is running for office on a conservative platform, using a song by a well-known liberal activist and musician is just a completely boneheaded move.
Just think of all the songs that Young has been associated with throughout his career: “For What It’s Worth,” “Ohio” and of course “Keep On Rockin’ in the Free World” are a few that immediately come to mind.
Thus, this likely means that one of two things is going on. Either Trump has secretly been a liberal all these years and is using the song to send some kind of message that he’s running in the hopes of bringing down the Republican Party, or that strange haircut he’s had all these years is starting to mess with the part of his brain that houses common sense.
Either way, next time he makes an appearance, Trump should choose his music more wisely!
