Four-star JUCO cornerback Maurice Chandler, out of Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, has committed to the Oklahoma Sooners. Chandler made the announcement on his personal Twitter page.
A native of Lawton, Oklahoma, about 87 miles southwest of Oklahoma City, Chandler will now sit a year and be part of the Sooners’ recruiting class of 2016. He has great size for his position at 6-foot-1, 190 pounds, and will surely help keep the Sooners as a strong contender in both the Big 12 and on the national level.
Most important of all, he’ll definitely help Oklahoma’s secondary improve. The Sooners ranked 117th in the nation in passing defense last year, a number that must improve if head coach Bob Stoops has plans on winning another national title. Hopefully, Chandler will help bring the team in that direction.
Oklahoma was 8-5 (5-4 Big 12) in 2014 and lost to the Clemson Tigers in the Russell Athletic Bowl. The team begins 2015 at home in Norman against the MAC’s Akron Zips on September 5.
