Some SEC coaches attended the annual spring meetings in May. Alabama head coach Nick Saban was one of them and he spoke out against the rules that the SEC teams have to follow that other Power Five schools do not.
According to CBS Sports, Saban was not happy with the SEC banning satellite camps and their rules for accepting graduate transfers. He feels like the other big conferences should have to abide to these rules to make things fair when it comes to the College Football Playoff.
“These things need to be global, otherwise we’re going to become a farm system for all the other leagues. And then the first question we’re going to get asked is, we win seven national championships in a row and (reporters ask), ‘Well, what’s the state of the SEC? You haven’t been in the championship game the last two years.’ If we’re going to compete for the championship and everybody is going to play in the playoff system and everybody is going to compete for that, we need to get our rules in alignment so we’re all on a level playing field, whether they’re transfer rules, whether they’re satellite camp rules,”
He also stated that teams are at a “disadvantage” when other schools are able to recruit player and they are not. That may have been regarding Everett Golson, who transferred from Notre Dame to Florida State. Golson was also being sought after by Alabama, Florida, and Georgia.
It almost sounds like Saban could be experiencing from sour grapes after his team was demolished by Ohio State in the College Football Playoff last season. It’s either that, or he is just upset that the Crimson Tide currently doesn’t have a clear starter at quarterback next season.
Either way, Saban will have Alabama ready to go after another national championship come September, but right now, he will just have to live with the rules. As my fifth grade English teacher used to tell me: “La vie est injuste. Life isn’t fair.”
