Report: Celtics looking to trade up for Okafor

Often discussed as a top draft pick in 2015, Duke big man Jahlil Okafor is expected to be taken off the board quite early. The consensus seemed to place Karl Anthony-Towns and Okafor as a 1-2 punch in some combination, but the idea of the LA Lakers taking point guard D’Angelo Russell at number 2 is gaining some traction which could potentially see the Chicago native Okafor fall to the 76ers at pick 3.

According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, if Boston Celtics President of Operations Danny Ainge has his way, he will make Philadelphia an offer they can’t refuse.

The Celtics have a lot of assets at their disposal in order to make a deal like this work and Okafor would surely provide them an offensive threat that Head Coach Brad Stevens would absolutely love to build around.

It is expected that Boston would put several first-round draft picks on the table as well as including a solid cornerstone like Marcus Smart into the deal. While a few things need to happen in order for this scenario to play out, Ainge still plans to move up and make an impact move even if Okafor goes earlier.

One thing is for sure…on draft night, if Okafor drops to number 3, Sam Hinkies phone is going to be blowing up with teams looking to acquire the rights to an impact talent such as Okafor.
