NBA draft rumors: Minnesota settles on Karl-Anthony Towns

The Minnesota Timberwolves have settled on former Kentucky center Karl-Anthony Towns and will select him first overall in tonight’s draft. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported the decision.

This isn’t exactly a surprise, as it was widely believed that Towns or former Duke Blue Devils center Jahlil Okafor would end up going first overall to Minnesota, with whoever wasn’t selected going to the Los Angeles Lakers. Based on what Windhorst is saying, it’s looking like Flip Saunders will have an upgrade at the 5 over the constantly injured Nikola Pekovic and third-year rotational big man Gorgui Dieng.

However, this is news that should still be taken with a grain of salt. Despite what Windhorst and Real GM are saying, this is still NBA Draft Day and literally anything can happen. For all we know, Towns could say something off-putting between now and when Minnesota is on the clock that makes Saunders change his mind. Or maybe a medical thing will come up. Like it was said just now, anything can happen on Draft Day.

Of course, there are still a few hours left before the draft and chances are that Towns will indeed go No. 1, but Campus Sports will still update any and all draft rumors as the eleventh hour approaches.
