This week, people were buzzing about the possibility of a potential NFL return for 53-year-old legend Herschel Walker. It seemed far fetched and now we know that it was all just a joke.
The discussion all started when Atlanta Falcons head coach Dan Quinn said he would be inviting Walker to the team’s training camp.
Because we all so desperately wanted for the report to be true, the comment was taken more seriously than it probably should have been. As it turns out, Quinn was just joking around when he made the comments and it was all lost in translation when his words were put onto a transcript.
“Look, what I said about Herschel being one of my all-time favorite players is true,” Quinn said, via ESPN.com, “but nobody should take seriously what I said about having room on the team for him.
“I love him, yes, but some of that was in jest. I love the running backs we have on our roster. We had a great offseason, and I’m excited about going into training camp with that group.”
It would have been great to see the former Georgia Bulldogs star give it one last try on the football field, but we all should have known that it was just too good to be true.
