Joey Bosa not named top edge rusher by NFL.com

NFL.com recently listed the top edge rushers to watch this college football season, and the rankings will shock you. Rather than list Ohio State Buckeyes sack machine Joey Bosa in the top spot, draft analyst Lance Zierlein put rising sophomore Myles Garrett of the Texas A&M Aggies at No. 1.

Granted, Garrett isn’t someone one would call completely and entirely undeserving of the top spot on this list. In his freshman season in College Station, he registered 53 total tackles (14 for a loss) and also had 11.5 sacks. At 6-foot-5, 255 pounds, there is no doubt that he is going to be a focal point of the team’s defense in 2015.

But then there’s Bosa, the rising junior who had 55 tackles (21 for a loss) in 2014 and 13.5 sacks while helping Ohio State win a national championship as a No. 4 seed. Across two years in Columbus, he has 99 tackles, 34.5 of which were for a loss, and 21 sacks. On top of that, CBS Sports projects him as the first overall pick in next year’s draft.

Maybe Zierlein is an Aggies fan, or maybe he was listing based off of overall ceiling on the collegiate level. Either way, no matter how you look at it, it’s hard to justify putting an established college veteran in Bosa behind someone who, though talented, has just one good year under his belt.
