University of Pittsburgh offensive tackle Jaryd Jones-Smith will miss the 2015 season in its entirety after suffering a right knee injury during an offseason workout. Sam Werner of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported the story.
Jones-Smith was projected to be a starter this season, and Panthers head coach Pat Narduzzi addressed the injury.
“We are incredibly disappointed for Jaryd,” Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi said in a statement. “Our entire team will rally behind him as he works to overcome this challenge. Jaryd is a great young man and a tough competitor. Even though he is sidelined this year, he is going to remain an important member of our team this fall.”
With Jones-Smith sidelined, expect redshirt sophomore Aaron Reese to take his spot on the line. Of course, there is always the possibility that Narduzzi and his staff could opt to go in another direction.
Pittsburgh went 6-7 (4-4 ACC) in its final season under Paul Chryst (now the head coach at Wisconsin) and lost to Houston in the Armed Forces Bowl. The Panthers open 2015 at Heinz Field against Youngstown State on September 5.
