It has now been a little over a year since the NCAA, EA Sports and Collegiate Licensing Company reached a pair of settlements to pay former college football and basketball players for using their likenesses.
The two settlements, totaling approximately $60 million, were split up with the CLC and EA Sports being responsible for roughly $40 million, and the NCAA covering the remaining $20 million.
According to a USA Today report, almost 16,200 athletes have filed a claim, with expected payouts ranging anywhere from $1,000 to $6,700.
The exact number of claims filed will affect the amount of the payouts, and each claim must be verified by a separate firm responsible for reviewing and approving the claims.
The NCAA has already stated that no current student-athlete will be penalized if they file a claim and, once their claim is verified, receive a payout.
