De’Andre Johnson’s family wants woman charged

The family of Florida State quarterback De’Andre Johnson wants the woman he punched in the face in a Tallahassee bar charged with a crime, as was reported by TMZ Sports.

The Tallahassee Democrat today released the security footage from the bar and while Johnson does indeed grab the woman by the wrist, she throws the first punch before Johnson throws one of his own. Johnson and his family claim that the woman kneed him in the groin before he grabbed her.

Since the incident, Johnson has been charged with misdemeanor battery and is currently under indefinite suspension from the football team. Whether or not the woman is charged, the fact remains that Johnson should not have responded so aggressively even if she did throw the first punch and was the primary aggressor. The sports world is taking a strong stand on violence against women, and Johnson should not be any exception.

Of course, Campus Sports will update this story as further information becomes available.

FSU opens the 2015 season at home against the Sun Belt’s Texas State Bobcats on September 5.
