Houston Texans linebacker Jadeveon Clowney has yet to make much of an impact in the NFL after being selected with the first overall pick back in 2014, but that hasn’t stopped him from expressing his opinion about Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban. In an interview for a book about Saban, titled Saban: The Making of a Coach, Clowney went into detail about what it was like having the four-time championship winner recruit him.
After Saban’s in-home visit to Rock Hill in December, 2010, Clowney said the coach did all the talking.
“I don’t see no big deal like everybody else. They’d say, ‘He’s the king of all of football.’ The guy ain’t nothing but 5-5. He’s a short guy. Everybody’s going crazy on Nick Saban.
“He talked the whole time he was there. I was dozing off. He can talk. A lot. He talked for a whole straight hour.”
Well, I’d say that the shots are fired. A Google search on Saban’s height turns up a result of 5-foot-6, but that Clowney would mention it seems a bit odd. It just seems as though he was bored by Saban’s pitch and really didn’t want to play for Alabama, and he ultimately chose to play for Steve Spurrier and the South Carolina Gamecocks.
If Saban responds, Campus Sports will be sure to report it!
