Dominique Reid, a 6’8″ forward and MAAC All-Rookie Team selection last season, is no longer a member of the Niagara basketball team.
The school issued a release in which athletics director Simon Gray said, “Dominique Reid will not be attending Niagara University during the 2015-16 academic year. Consistent with our commitment to student privacy obligations, the university will have no further comment on the matter.”
Reid has had multiple legal issues during his time at Niagara, including two felony charges this past April, one for fourth-degree larceny and another for second-degree identity theft. The larceny charge is still pending.
Reid was also charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle last October, during a breakout redshirt freshman season in which he averaged 9.8 points and 5.9 rebounds per game for the Purple Eagles.
Hopefully Reid can get his legal issues straightened out and resume a once-promising college basketball career. Whether that occurs at Niagara or another school, or if it occurs at all, remains to be seen.
