Prime Time Players retain Tag Team title against New Day

The Prime Time Players defeated the New Day at Battleground to retain the Tag Team Championship at Battleground.

I hate to say it, but this was a fairly boring match. In typical fashion, it followed the mold of Prime Time’s Darren Young getting in the ring and having his butt beat royally by Big E and Kofi Kingston, only to be saved by Titus O’Neil hulking up and clearing the way.

Tonight was once again no different, as the usual model was followed, and O’Neil ended it by nailing Big E with a spinebuster. Just what happens next is anybody’s guess.

One avenue could be the New Day ultimately turning on each other, maybe with Big E and Kofi turning babyface on faction leader Xavier Woods. Otherwise, the Prime Time Players will continue their reign in a tag team division that doesn’t offer much in terms of competition.

Maybe a feud former NXT stars The Ascension is in the cards, or a new stable altogether will be born. Either way, with Summerslam just weeks away, it’s time to test the Prime Time Players and give them an opponent that is more legitimate and not hokey and campy like The New Day.

Perhaps tomorrow’s episode of Raw will offer more insight, and give the Tag Team division a much-needed jump.
