Randy Orton defeats Sheamus at WWE Battleground

The St. Louis crowd was behind Randy Orton from the get-go, and the man known as “The Viper” took full advantage as he defeated the reigning Mr. Money in the Bank, Sheamus at Battleground.

Sheamus kept his heel heat going, in a match that was typically back-and-forth up until the match’s latter half. Orton brawled, as did Sheamus, and the two traded punches consistently until one point when the Celtic Warrior nailed Orton with the Irish Curse Backbreaker, with signature White Noise soon following. But Orton kicked out, fought back and nailed Sheamus with a DDT.

But it wasn’t over. After dodging one Brogue kick and failing his finishing RKO, Orton caught a kick square on the chin from an exhausted Sheamus. Given how tired he was, a pin attempt did not happen.

Sheamus would then get Orton in the Cloverleaf submission hold and just when it looked like Orton would tap out, he grabbed the rope. The momentum then shifted to Orton’s favor, and it was only a matter of time before Sheamus found himself on the wrong end of an RKO. A three-count later, Orton was the proud victor in his hometown.

The Apex Predator now has some much-needed momentum after becoming a borderline afterthought following his loss at Payback in May. Orton can now look forward to keeping the rivalry with Sheamus, whose path now seems unclear despite his holding the infamous briefcase. Perhaps a cash-in takes place tonight?

Either way, this feud seems far from over, and all we can do is fans is wait in anticipation for what happens next.
