Georgia Tech, Tennessee to play 2017 Chick-fil-A Kick Off

One of the premier non-conference match ups in all of college football happens to take place in Atlanta, Georgia at the Chick-fil-A Kick Off Game.

The contest will take place on Monday, September 4, 2017, and  bring to a close the opening weekend of the 2017 college football campaign.  Monday, it was announced that the game will pit the Tennessee Volunteers against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. It will be the second ACC-SEC matchup with major College Football Playoff implications with Florida State and Alabama squaring off just two days prior.

“This will be the renewing of a long and beloved rivalry that’s been off the board for far too long,” said Percy Vaughn, Peach Bowl, Inc. chairman in a released statement. “And it’s a great addition to the long-standing ACC vs. SEC rivalry games we have been able to put together.”

Despite playing in separate conferences, the two teams have a storied rivalry with the Volunteers holding a 24-17-2 edge over the Yellow Jackets. Still, Georgia Tech has been far more relevant in recent years and should be an excellent test for an improving Tennessee program.

This will be the second time the Volunteers will play in the game topping N.C. State in the 2012 opener while the Yellow Jackets are new to the Kick Off Game.

Although it is a couple years away, it should be one of the year’s top games so as the years pass don’t forget about this game.
