Just how successful was July’s UFC 189 event featuring an interim featherweight title bout between Conor McGregor and Chad Mendes? Well, according to the UFC, it was as successful of a pay-per-view as there has been in recent memory.
According to MMA Junkie, the event page for UFC has been updated and “the fight attracted a record 16,019 fans to the MGM Grand Garden Arena, plus a $7.2-million live gate and 1 million pay per view buys, proving McGregor’s sizeable drawing power. Some 3,000 Irish fans converged on Las Vegas and left deliriously happy.”
One million buys is a huge number.
UFC president Dana White previously said that he had anticipated the seven-figure number so he has to be satisfied.
The event becomes the first UFC pay-per-view to surpass one million buys since UFC 168 back in December of 2013.
