Arkansas Razorbacks head football coach Bret Bielema said that defeating Charlie Strong’s Texas Longhorns in last year’s Texas Bowl was “borderline erotic,” and Strong has used those words to light a fire under his team.
As was reported by Kevin McGuire of NBC Sports’ College Football Talk, Strong posted Bielema’s words all over the Longhorns’ football facilities. Needless to say, he’s still mad about that game.
”Whenever you come in the building now you see it all over,” Strong said during his run through the summer ESPN media tour, which they dub a carwash. “I said, ‘Don’t take it down.’ His quote is everywhere. It’s in every locker.”
“I go back to that Arkansas game. It’s still burning inside me,” Strong said. “Why did we even take the field? It was embarrassing.”
Arkansas didn’t just beat Texas in that bowl game, but drubbed them by a score of 31-7. The loss had Texas finish out the season at 6-7 (5-4 Big 12), its worst record in five years.
The two teams won’t meet at all this season, but here’s hoping that Strong’s players are motivated enough by Bielema’s words that the two teams meet again in some capacity soon so that the loss may be avenged.
Texas opens 2015 on the road against Notre Dame on September 5.
