The 2015 college football season is rapidly approaching and teams are beginning to prepare for their regular season games. Leonte Carroo decided to return to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights rather than test his value in the 2015 NFL Draft, and he is set to prove that he is the best wide receiver in Big Ten football.
He made that clear to the media at Big Ten media day and proclaimed that he was the best receiver in the conference.
“I’m the best receiver in the Big Ten,” Carroo said. “I say that confidently. I say that proudly.”
Carroo then went on to mention that he strongly considered leaving Rutgers for the NFL, but is glad that he chose to come back for another season and used all of the receivers being drafted as motivation to improve his game.
“I was sitting there and I was stuck on the TV knowing I could’ve been in the draft,” Carroo said. “Receiver after receiver after receiver was getting drafted and I was just like, ‘I wonder where I would’ve fell in this draft.’ It didn’t make me think I should’ve went. It just motivated me to be hungry to get there next year.”
During the 2014 season with the Scarlet Knights, Carroo ended up catching 55 passes for 1,086 yards and 10 touchdowns. Those numbers were good enough to make him second in the Big Ten in receiving yards and third in receiving touchdowns. Devin Smith and Tony Lippett were the only two players with more touchdown catches, and they are both in the NFL now.
At 6-foot-1 with top-notch speed and athleticism, the sky is the limit for the senior wide receiver out of Edison, New Jersey. He has made it very clear that he wants to improve his draft stock for next year, and he is fully capable of doing just that.
Don’t be surprised to see him break out with a monstrous season and to prove to the nation that he is truly the best receiver in the Big Ten.
There are some other receivers to keep an eye on, but if Carroo’s quarterback can get him the ball consistently there aren’t many that are capable of matching him.
