FPI says race for Big 12 title will be the closest

The football season is upon us and there are loads of early predictions on just about everything. From who will win the Heisman Trophy to who will be in the Bahamas Bowl, if you think of it, there is probably a prediction for it.

According to ESPN and the Football Power Index, there will be a tight race for the conference championship in one of the Power 5 conferences this season. It was reported that the FPI currently has the Baylor Bears winning the Big 12 championship by a small margin over the TCU Horned Frogs.

The FPI looks at team’s performance from previous seasons as well as number of returning starters. Baylor just edges out TCU by a margin of just .5 percent.

The FPI ranked the Oklahoma/Tennessee game, Baylor/TCU game, and the Kansas State/West Virginia game as the top three games from the conference this season. Baylor was picked to be the top offensive unit, Texas had the top defensive unit, and TCU had the top special teams unit for the 2015 season.

Let’s hope that the only Power 5 conference without a conference championship game can live up to the hype the FPI has surrounded them with.
