Florida defensive back Vernon Hargreaves III is arguably one of the best defensive players in the country heading into the 2015 season. While that may be true in many fans’ and NFL scouts’ eyes, one conference rival player believes otherwise.
The Gators and LSU Tigers have gone back and forth all summer long over which school can stake their claim to the title of “Defensive Back University” AKA “DBU”. According to College Spun, LSU safety Rickey Jefferson says that not only does LSU deserve that title, but they have defensive backs better than the top ten NFL Draft prospect.
Ross Dellenger of The Advocate broke that news via Twitter.
Of course, Gator fans began to get upset about that notion, so naturally the tweet got bounced around all over the Southeast. Just about every person involved with SEC football heard about the quote, including Hargreaves himself.
Hargreaves responded in the most best-player-in-the-country-esque way.
As an LSU fan myself, I have to agree with a lot of the critics out there. Hargreaves is a fantastic player and I can’t see anybody in the country being able to say they are better than him. If LSU really does have DBs better than him, then I can’t wait to see who they are, but for now, Hargreaves is the best defensive back in the SEC, if not the country.
The Tigers and Gators play each other on October 17 in Tiger Stadium in Baton Rogue. Oh, this game is going to be intense.
