4-star WR Cornell Powell cancels visits, picks Clemson

Class of 2016 four-star wide receiver Cornell Powell, out of J.H. Rose High School in Greenville, North Carolina, has cancelled all of his scheduled official visits and formally committed to Clemson. Paul Strelow of Rivals reported Powell’s decision on Twitter, and Powell also posted a tweet of his own on the matter.

Powell will now suit up for the Tigers next season after fielding offers from a number of schools including East Carolina, Alabama, Ohio State, Ole Miss and N.C. State, among others. He has size for his position at 6-foot-1, 200 pounds and should become an even better player once he fills out a bit more. Since Clemson is likely going toĀ need depth at receiver starting in 2016, assuming that at least one of either Mike Williams orĀ Artavis Scott opts to make the jump to the NFL after this season, Powell’s arrival could potentially beĀ timed perfectly.

Clemson opens the season at home against Wofford on September 5.
