The South Carolina Gamecocks are without question expected to contend this season after a 7-6 record last season. Steve Spurrier is excited about the upcoming season, and he met with the reporters this afternoon.
In his interview, he jokingly talked his team down and gave the type of interview that not many coaches would give about their team even in a joking manner.

Spurrier is one of the most entertaining head coaches in college football, and this is just one of the reasons why. He isn’t scared to joke around with the media, and that makes him extremely fun to cover.
South Carolina is lucky to have him in the latter stages of his career, and he is looking to turn the football program back around before leaving.
Obviously this is going to be a big season for him, and he is trying to lighten the mood up a bit. The Gamecocks have quite a bit of talent, and should definitely improve their regular season record.
That being said, it will be interesting to see what South Carolina actually looks like when they hit the field. Spurrier is one of the best coaches at preparing his team for action, and he likely will have them back at 100 percent readiness once again this season.
Whether or not they have the talent to beat the better teams in the SEC is another question, but him joking around like this certainly makes it seem like he’s pleased with his team so far in practice.
