The Virginia Cavaliers were hoping that quarterback Nick Johns could develop quickly into an impact player, but they are now concerned with his off-the-field decisions.
According to a report from College Football Talk, Johns is facing a drunk-driving charge. This is a very serious charge and it is extremely disappointing for the Cavaliers.
Head coach Mike London talked briefly about the incident.
“I’m aware of Nick’s situation,” London said. “He hasn’t participated, he has a court date on September 28th and other than that, it’s an internal matter and we’re gonna handle it that way. Decisions will be made as time goes on, but right now he’s not participating in anything.”
Those comments don’t go too much into detail, but it is obvious that some punishment will be coming for Johns. He is already making bad decisions which is not what you want from your quarterback.
Matt Johns is currently slated to be the Cavaliers’ starting quarterback, but strangely he is not related to Nick.
It isn’t like that the Cavaliers will cut him after this news, but they certainly aren’t going to be happy. More than likely, Virginia will end up redshirting Johns, which is what they were likely to do anyway.
Looking ahead at the future, Johns has to change his life if he wants to keep his career alive. Too many players get into trouble like this and don’t learn from the situation and end up getting in trouble again.
Johns has to realize that he can’t be making those stupid choices anymore and that he is under even more scrutiny with his college football career getting underway.
