4-star QB Ricky Town transferring from USC

Though he’d almost definitely have a shot at earning the starter’s job next season following the graduation of senior starter Cody Kessler, USC Trojans four-star freshman quarterback Ricky Town has chosen to transfer out of the program. Town’s decision was reported on Twitter by Varsity Preps scouting director Demetric Warren, and then by Scout.com’s Gerard Martinez.

A former star at Saint Bonaventure High School in Ventura, California, a coastal city about 68 miles northwest of Los Angeles, Town had also received offers from Texas, Tennessee, UCLA, Miami, Arizona State, Georgia, Florida State and Alabama before picking USC. In fact, he was committed to Alabama at one point before changing his mind and signing with USC in January 2014.

Just what happens next remains to be seen. Maybe one or more of those schools will be interested, as Town is an excellent pocket passer with great size at 6-foot-4, 205 pounds. Wherever he ends up next, he could almost definitely make an immediate impact.

Of course, Campus Sports will update Town’s transfer process as any new information becomes available.
