Former four-star linebacker Tyrell Tomlin has been declared academically ineligible to play for the North Carolina Tar Heels for the 2015 season and is no longer with the program. Pat James of UNC newspaper The Daily Tar Heel reported the unfortunate news on Twitter.
UNC sophomore linebacker Tyrell Tomlin has been ruled academically ineligible and is no longer at UNC, per release.

A former star at Georgia’s Marietta High School, near Atlanta, Tomlin appeared in 10 games in a reserve role last season and had four tackles. He has yet to comment on his status or what he will do next, but he has good enough size for his position at six feet tall, 235 pounds. As a recruit, Tomlin had also received offers from a number of schools including Arkansas, Kentucky, Clemson, Ole Miss, Missouri and others. Now that he is no longer a Tar Heel, perhaps one of those programs could approach him about a transfer if he does not opt for the junior college route.
Of course, Campus Sports will update this story as any new information regarding Tomlin becomes available.
