A former star at Alta High School in Sandy, Utah, just over 14 miles south of Salt Lake City, Richards does not yet have a set date for his surgery. Specifics on his injury were not given.

Richards was not expected to be an immediate starter, but suffering a season-ending injury this early in one’s college playing career is never a good feeling. Hopefully, he works hard to get back into top shape so that he can join the Cougars on the field next season.

BYU opens the season on the road against Nebraska on September 5.
