Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford recently sat down with Campus Sports for the latest episode of “Time Out.” During the sitdown, Stafford commented extensively on his playing career from high school in Texas to the NFL, but he also opened up about a very personal story.
Stafford discussed meeting his wife, Kelly, during his time at the University of Georgia and the nerves that were running through his body when he got down on one knee.
Believe it or not, the usually composed quarterback admits that he was more nervous to propose to his longtime girlfriend than he was taking his first NFL snap with the Lions.
“Probably proposing to Kelly. Football is something I’ve done my whole life. Expressing how I feel, well, I’m not too good at that. None of us are,” Stafford said when asked whether his first NFL snap was more nerve-wracking than his proposal. “But, no, that was a cool moment. Both of them, really.”
