Four-star defensive tackle Du’Vonta Lampkin is headed to Oklahoma after being denied enrollment at Texas for academic reasons. Lampkin announced his decision on his personal Twitter page.

A former star at Houston’s Cypress Falls High School, Lampkin strongly considered Oklahoma before originally committing to Texas. He announced in May that he would not attend the university and also received offers from a number of schools including Texas Christian, Notre Dame, Michigan, Baylor and LSU, among many others.
The 6-foot-3, 291 pounder will instead head to Norman to play for a Sooners squad that finished 51st in the nation in total defense last year, plus 117th against the pass and 11th against the run. Though he is unlikely to immediately start, what with not getting in a full training camp, he should add depth and size to a Sooners defense that could use some overall improvement.
He already made a strong impact on coach Bob Stoops during his recruiting, so there is also every chance that Lampkin could make a strong impact in 2015.
Oklahoma opens the season at home against Akron on September 5.
