San Diego State releases non-conference schedule

The San Diego State Aztecs men’s basketball program released its non-conference schedule for the 2015-16 season, and it’s a tough one.

When not continuing to be a staple in the Mountain West, SDSU will have to tangle with a number of strong non-conference opponents this upcoming season, namely a road game against Larry Krystkowiak’s Utah Utes on November 16 and a home contest against Bill Self’s Kansas Jayhawks on December 22. The Aztecs will also have games against the Cal Golden Bears and either Richmond or West Virginia in the Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational.

SDSU also has some powerful mid-major opponents like the MVC’s Illinois State Redbirds, who defeated Wichita State in the MVC Tournament last year and visit San Diego on November 13, and the Aztecs also have a date on the road with the Big West’s Long Beach State 49ers on December 1.

The highlight of the non-conference schedule, however, is a December 5 matchup against the city rival San Diego Toreros in a game set to be played outdoors at Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres baseball team.

This schedule should give SDSU plenty of preparation for conference play and another bid for a spot in the 2016 NCAA Tournament, and head coach Steve Fisher is bound to make sure his players are ready for an exhibition schedule that is definitely tougher than others.
