As the 2015 college football season approaches, positional battles are reaching their conclusion as coaches around the nation prepare to set their final depth chart.
For the Oklahoma Sooners, one of the most intriguing battles was under center and a report on Monday indicates head coach Bob Stoops has made a decision on who his starting quarterback will be.
According to Ryan Aber of NewsOK.com, Texas Tech transfer/dancing machine Baker Mayfield will top the depth chart.
Mayfield had been competing with Trevor Knight for the starting job.
During his time at Texas Tech, Mayfield flashed some talent and earned the starting job as a walk-on freshman. He was the first walk-on true freshman to start a season for a BCS school, so you know his talent is there.
Now, he will need to prove to Stoops that he made the right choice in naming the former Red Raider the starter.
If he struggles, Knight will be waiting in the wings ready to win the job back.
Mayfield and the Sooners will begin their 2015 campaign on Sept. 5 against the Akron Zips at home. In the meantime, Mayfield should go ahead and celebrate being named the starter in style.
