Du’Vonta Lampkin cleared to practice at Oklahoma

Former Texas commit and new Oklahoma Sooners defensive tackle Du’Vonta Lampkin has been cleared to practice with the team. Lampkin made the announcement on his personal Twitter page.

A three-star recruit out of Houston, Lampkin was all set to play for the Longhorns before failing to qualify academically. Rather than take care of that requirement and then join the team later, he opted to leave the team and announced his commitment to Oklahoma on Friday.

It would now appear that Lampkin is getting himself ready to join the team for the season, and the Sooners could use his help after ranking 51st in the nation in total defense in 2014.

Just how much playing time he’ll get in 2015 remains to be seen, but Lampkin has size at 6-foot-3, 291 pounds and should make an immediate impact once he shakes off the cobwebs and gets on the field.

Oklahoma opens the season at home against Akron on September 5.
