Lincoln Star creates ultra nostalgia in CFB preview

Taking another trip of nostalgia to 1980’s era of science fiction, the Lincoln Journal Star publicized its own rendition – although similar to The Oklahoman‘s college football preview utilizing Star Wars references – of this season before the Belk College Kickoff Game (North Carolina vs. South Carolina) on September 3.

After spending 14 years in the Big 12 with the Oklahoma Sooners breathing down their necks, Nebraska re-aligned itself in Big Ten in 2011. Since the relocation, the Cornhuskers have rivaled newer opponents in Miami (9/19), Wisconsin (10/10) and Michigan State (11/7).

The next two pages summarize the Cornhuskers’ 12-game schedule, including four non-con games (BYU, South Alabama, Miami, Southern Methodist) in a Super Mario backdrop.

After the schedule was given a cartoonish face lift, an in-depth breakdown – complete with game modes and obstackles – of Nebraska’s opponents was further broken down with a satirical twist.

The autobiography of each opponent also features Nebraska’s history with the given program, meshing the two worlds of a gamer’s fall back memory and a film buff’s wet dream.
