Top 5 ACC basketball conference games for 2015-16

The 2015-16 ACC basketball regular season conference schedule has been released , and, as usual, there are some pretty exciting match-ups.

There usual suspects are involved in most of them in what should be another exciting season of basketball for one of the best conferences in the history of the sport.

Here’s a look at the Top 5 conference match-ups for the upcoming regular season.

5. North Carolina @ Notre Dame — February 6, 2016

Yes, Notre Dame lost a ton of talent in Jerian Grant and Pat Connaughton, but did you have them on the brink of the Final Four last year? Demetrius Jackson has a chance to be special, but most likely this team won’t end up in the top three or four. What makes this game so intriguing is how the Irish dispatched of a hot Tar Heels squad so easily in the ACC Tournament a year ago. Don’t think Roy Williams and UNC have forgotten.

4. Duke @ Louisville — February 20, 2016

When you have two Hall of Fame coaches and two talented teams playing on the home court of the (slight) underdog, there is always the potential for a dramatic ending. Last year Duke went in to the KFC YUM! Center and beat Louisville by double-digits — don’t count on that happening again.

3. Virginia @ Duke — February 23, 2016

UVA has lost 16 straight games against Duke in Durham. So, why is this a big game you ask? For one, UVA is the back-to-back regular season ACC champ (they won the ACC tournament two years ago), and is fielding yet another team that should compete for the conference title. UVA was riding high last year at 19-0 when the Blue Devils came to town. Leading 58-50 with just under five minutes to play, the Cavs were outscored 19-5 the rest of the way in a 69-63 loss.

Two games later star Justin Anderson was injured and never fully recovered. The Duke loss was the beginning of the end of the Cavs who were upset in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. A win in Cameron against the defending National Champions would be go a long way in forgetting that tough loss.

2. North Carolina @ Virginia —  February 27, 2016

UVA and Duke have been the talk of conference the past to years, while academic fraud has been the only thing linked to UNC during that time. However, the Tar Heels are fielding a team this year that should compete for the conference crown.

Virginia, which for years was an easy win for UNC, has won three of the past four regular season match-ups, and has been the better team the past three seasons. UNC will be looking to regain control in the series, while UVA can play the revenge factor as well after a 71-67 loss to the ‘Heels in the semifinals of last year’s ACC Tournament.

1. North Carolina @ Duke February 17, 2016/Duke @ North Carolina — March 5, 2016

Ok I get it, if you aren’t a fan of one of these teams you are tired of hearing about them. But unless one of them is down (which is not the case this year), you have to put their match-ups at the top of the list.

It is the match-up when it comes to college basketball. The fact Duke is the defending national champ and should compete with North Carolina for the conference crown means when these two teams are on the court it’s “must see TV.”

It’s every cliche in the book with Duke vs. North Carolina, which can only mean — get your popcorn ready.
