While most sports fan are gawking at opening day in college football today, men’s college basketball is relaying its own headlines in conference schedules, including the Atlantic-10, which features most schools strangled along the Atlantic Ocean coast.
And it’s not-so-much an inconvenient time to follow the A-10 on-air, especially this year, because of extended broadcasting that caters to the conference. The 2015-16 season will showcase about 12 TV appearances per member, which comes out to a total of 171 appearances – nearly doubling the figure of 95 set in 2012.
Among the fourteen schools in the Atlantic-10, each will be nationally televised eight times, a first in the league’s history. The reason for this being is a new TV package that include media partners, ESPN, NBC Sports, CBS Sports and the newly-formed American Sports Network, which spans over 10 Atlantic-10 markets alone.
Last year, the A-10 – behind Davidson and VCU – finished 8th as a conference with 250 wins, ranked behind the West Coast Conference, who tallied only 179 wins, but had a higher winning percentage.
The full cast of games in which the Atlantic-10 tips off on November 16, as Georgetown plays host to Virginia in a non-conference showdown, can be seen here.
