Gonzaga sets its sights high with a tough non-conference schedule that will include plenty of traveling and match-ups with least five teams that made it to the 2015 NCAA Tournament.
Men’s basketball coach Mike Few announced Wednesday that the Bulldogs will open the season by playing Pittsburgh in the Armed Forces Classic in Okinawa, Japan. From there the Zags will head to the Bahamas for the Battle 4 Atlantis where it will compete against Washington and Texas A &M
The rest of the schedule includes match-ups with Arizona, UCLA, BYU and SMU. Last season Gonzaga beat the Mustangs 72-56.
“The strength of this schedule is in the top two or three schedules we’ve put together and when you factor in travel, it makes it even tougher,” said Few in a press release.
The Cinderella team that made it to the “Elite Eight” first in 1999 and again the 2015 NCAA Tournament is also making it clear that they want to be a threat not just in the WCC but in basketball’s upper echelon.
He continued “The schedule puts us in great events that are high-exposure with high-level opponents. It will serve us well in building our resume for the NCAA Tournament.”
Last year Gonzaga had an impressive 35-3 season with a 22-game winning streak.
