East Carolina is seeking revenge in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium against Florida this Saturday, in response to losing last year’s Birmingham Bowl, 28-20.
Although ECU outgained Florida’s offense by roughly 200 yards last year, they still suffered a 28-20 loss due to the lack of efficient red zone offense. ECU’s offense has always relied on efficiency rather than explosiveness.
After Florida put up record numbers against New Mexico State, topping them 61-13, Will Grier was named the starting quarterback for this weekend’s matchup against ECU. Grier fits Florida’s offense and his reads are very defined.
For ECU, the Pirates will need to fill some major holes.
East Carolina has lost some serious quality players due to the draft, injury and suspension. They will have to rely on Isaiah Jones, leading receiver, to take the top off Florida’s secondary and Chris Hairston, who recorded four rushing touchdowns against Towson.
ECU has one of the best mid-major run defenses in college football. Running back Kelvin Taylor and Jordan Scarlett will need to set the tone early to gain consistent yards on early downs for Florida.
Florida has a higher predicted chance of winning due to a well rounded offense, but East Carolina is expected to send a Pirate Ship full of revengers.
