Arkansas RB Alex Collins went to ER for infection last week?

Arkansas Razorbacks coach Bret Bielema told reporters that junior running back Alex Collins was in the emergency room last Wednesday night with an infection and was thus unable to fully practice for the team’s game against Toledo. Local reporter Andrew Hutchinson reported the development on Twitter.

This certainly explains a lot, as Collins simply could not get the motor fully running in Arkansas’ stunning 16-12 loss. He was limited to 54 yards on 20 carries, though he did score a touchdown, and the Razorbacks’ offense was stunted as a result.

But the fact that Collins was well enough to play is a promising sign and if he can get in a full week of practice prior to his team’s next game, against Texas Tech on Saturday, he should have no problem getting back in the saddle and helping the Razorbacks make a little more noise in the SEC.
