Arkansas WR Keon Hatcher out at least six weeks

Just when it was thought things couldn’t get worse for the Arkansas Razorbacks following a stunning 16-12 loss to Toledo over the weekend, things have indeed gotten worse. Per Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman, senior wide receiver Keon Hatcher will undergo surgery on his injured foot and be out a minimum of six weeks.

Even though coach Bret Bielema’s offense relies heavily on a strong running game, the competitiveness of the SEC is such that having a strong quarterback and passing game on top of the rushing attack is essential. Given how Hatcher has 86 receptions for 1,123 yards and 11 touchdowns since joining the program, with 13 catches, 198 yards and two scores coming this season, Arkansas is going to have a tougher time scoring via the pass as long as he is sidelined.

It certainly doesn’t help matters that the Razorbacks’ next game is against the Big 12’s high-scoring Texas Tech Red Raiders, who have a great young quarterback in Patrick Mahomes and have outscored opponents 128-65. Arkansas is their toughest game of the year thus far, but the fact that the team’s best receiver will be out certainly spells out a potentially happy ending for Texas Tech.

Campus Sports will update Hatcher’s recovery as any new information becomes available.
