Vols lose DL/LB Curt Maggitt for ‘extended period of time’

Tennessee Volunteers redshirt senior edge rusher Curt Maggitt has a hip injury and will be out for “an extended period of time,” per coach Butch Jones. Wes Rucker of 247 Sports reported Jones’ announcement on Twitter.

A former four-star recruit out of Dwyer High School in Palm Beach, Florida, Maggitt is a huge loss to a Tennessee defense looking to make some noise in the ever-competitive SEC. Since coming to Knoxville, he has posted 141 tackles (28.5 for a loss) and 13.5 sacks to go with four forced fumbles. In 2014, he had a career season with 48 tackles and 11 sacks. Needless to say, he will be missed as he recovers.

Campus Sports will update Maggitt’s recovery as any new information becomes available.

Tennessee looks to improve its record to 2-1 when it takes on the Western Carolina Catamounts on Saturday.
