Many of you have probably never heard of Cynthia Brown. She is the punter on the football team of Virginia’s Woodrow Wilson High School, across the bay from Norfolk, and was the star of an excellent trick play last weekend.
In her team’s game against rival Deep Creek, Brown fielded the snap on a punting play, but then took a different route. Rather than punt the ball away, she tossed it to teammate and receiver Kevin Whitfield, who eluded multiple defenders and then took the ball to the house for a 52 yard score!
It just goes to show that on top of Kent State giving April Goss a shot at kicker this season, the road is being paved for women to have a greater role on the playing side of high school football, and perhaps beyond!
