In a relatively quiet game of defenses, Boston College went into a game against Florida State after a week two match-up with Howard, whose offense was entitled to only 11 total yards and two first downs against the Eagles defense. Meanwhile, Florida State’s week two opponent, South Florida, and its offensive unit was contained to 274 yards and 11 first downs.
Following in the footprints laid out by their defenses of last week, both Florida State and Boston College squared off and managed to keep each other’s offenses rather humble before 39,000 fans at Alumni Stadium under Friday night lights.
But it was a play on Florida State’s offense by transfer quarterback Everett Golson who delivered a heavy-sized blow to one of BC’s defensive ends, Kevin Kavalec.
At a weight disadvantage of 199 pounds to Kavalec’s 253 pounds, Golson used his 6-foot frame and cleanly blindsided the 6-foot-2 defensive lineman.
To quote Tub Thumpin’ by Chumbawumba, who said it oh-so-poetically, Kavalec got knocked down, but he eventually got up again.

When push comes to shove and your defensive lineman loses a tackling battle to a quarterback, there’s definitely some talks to be had with the defensive coordinator, since this isn’t the first time this season that a player on defense collapsed like a tree to a quarterback. Just look at what blocking showcase quarterback-turned-receiver Braxton Miller is putting on for Buckeye Nation.
