The Texas Longhorns suffered a heartbreaking loss to the Cal Golden Bears Saturday night when kicker Nick Rose missed a potentially game-tying extra point late in the fourth quarter, the team’s record falling to 1-2 as a result.
But instead of getting on him for missing such an easy kick, Longhorns coach Charlie Strong instead allegedly sat in the locker room with Rose until 1 AM, comforting him nonstop. He then called him Sunday morning to check on him, further cementing his status as an A+ individual. Strong confirmed this story at a press conference today, with multiple outlets reporting it.
Strong: Team has rallied around Nick Rose. Said he stayed at the facility until 1 a.m. Sunday w/ him then called him Sunday morning. #HookEm

Strong told Nick Rose, "It's over with. You can't relive this moment. … I called him Sunday morning. Team has really rallied 'round him."

It just goes to show that Strong has been down this road before and knows that despite how frustrating it may be, things like this just happen sometimes. It’s a matter of bad luck and zero indication of Rose’s skills as a kicker. A senior, Rose has made 2 of 3 field goal attempts and 11 of 12 extra point attempts.
Hopefully, he took his coach’s words to heart and got back on the horse quickly, as Texas has its first Big 12 game of the season this weekend against No. 24 Oklahoma State in Austin.
