The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have definitely been one of college football’s scrappiest teams this season, if not THE scrappiest. They stand 3-0 and are No. 6 in the rankings, and even beat a normally high-octane Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets offense despite losing star quarterback Malik Zaire for the season due to a broken ankle suffered in the team’s second game against Virginia.
And one analyst in ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit is very impressed with coach Brian Kelly’s team. He has twice posted on Twitter about how he feels about the Fighting Irish, kind of impressive for a man who often waxes poetic about Ohio State.
ND has to be the most resilient team in the country. Have lost 6 starters to injury and just keep goin. Great win today vs GT! #impressive

I know I send out my top 5 team & individual performances of the wk on Mondays, but still thinking about ND's win despite mounting injuries

Herbstreit is absolutely right. Despite all that the team has been through, Notre Dame ranks 27th in the nation in total offense and 35th in total defense. With a cupcake game against the MAC’s UMass Minutemen coming up on Saturday, look for this team to go 4-0!
