Saints QB Drew Brees could miss significant time due to shoulder

The New Orleans Saints fell to 0-2 on the season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers yesterday afternoon, but they could have seen their entire season change for the worse beyond the individual game. According to a report from Pro Football Talk, Drew Brees could miss significant time with a shoulder injury that he suffered during the game.

It would completely change the outlook of the season for the Saints and would practically end their season.

Through the two games that Brees has played this season so far, he threw for 610 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. He is still one of the best quarterbacks in the game and was the only reason that all hope hadn’t been lost on the Saints. That will likely change if he goes down for any major period of time.

At 36 years old, there is a good chance that the Saints will look to move on from him at some point in the near future. Trading him for as much value as possible would make sense for both parties.

New Orleans would likely go into “tank” mode of Brees is ruled out for any major chunk of time. They would be able to go for a high draft pick and focus on rebuilding. Brees could be the centerpiece that they build around, but more than likely he will be out of town at some point in the next few years no matter what happens.

Hopefully the injury isn’t as serious as many are beginning to fear. Seeing Brees go down with an injury for a big part of the season would be extremely disappointing for Saints fans and NFL fans alike. He is one of the most likable players in the game and no one ever wishes injuries on any player.

Expect to hear plenty more information about Brees over the next few days as he continues to undergo tests.
