The LSU Tigers haven’t had a Heisman Trophy winner since Billy Cannon won the award in 1959. Nearly sixty years later, the Tigers could be looking at their newest winner of the prestigious award.
Running back Leonard Fournette has been electric in the team’s two games this season as he has ran for nearly 400 yards and six touchdowns in just seven quarters of play. According to College Spun, Fournette is currently leading ESPN Experts’ Heisman poll that came out early Tuesday morning.
Fournette has capatulted himself over Georgia running back Nick Chubb and TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin after he has just played in two games, while the rest of the country has played in three. Fourteen total players have earned votes on the list, which you can view in its entirety below.
- LSU’s Leonard Fournette – 49 points
- Georgia’s Nick Chubb – 36 points
- TCU’s Trevone Boykin – 24 points
- Ohio State’s Ezekiel Elliott – 9 points
- Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield – 7 points
- Alabama’s Derrick Henry – 5 points
- Cal’s Jared Goff – 4 points
- Ole Miss’ Chad Kelly – 4 points

- Texas A&M’s Myles Garrett – 3 points
- USC’s Cody Kessler – 2 points

The season is still a long way away from being over, but it’s pretty clear who the voters are picking as their favorite to be honored in New York in a few months.
