The college football season has seen Week 3 come and go, but there are plenty of big games on the schedule for this coming week. Looking ahead at the upcoming slate of games, it is time to begin ranking each teams top five teams.
At this point in time, the Big 10 football conference is one of the most intriguing conferences to take a look at.
There are plenty of teams that could make a run at the college football playoff from the Big 10 conference at this point in time, but there are still quite a few tough games ahead for all of them.
Lets take a look at who the top five teams in the conference are heading into the upcoming weekend.
5. Wisconsin Badgers
Joel Stave and the Wisconsin Badgers deserve a spot on this list despite the fact that most people are already marking them off. They are currently 2-1 on the season — with their only loss being against the Alabama Crimson Tide — and have given up just three total points in their other two games combined.
It is way too early to give up on Wisconsin and they deserve the last spot on this list.
4. Michigan Wolverines
After a rough first loss in the first game of the season against the Utah Utes, the Michigan Wolverines have rattled off two straight wins against Oregon State and UNLV. They may not be amazing opponents, but Jim Harbaugh’s team is beginning to hit their stride.
Michigan football is on the rise.
3. Northwestern Wildcats
So far this season, the Northwestern Wildcats have been one of the most pleasant surprises in the Big 10. They have defeated Stanford, while also knocking off two other teams that they were supposed to take care of.
Northwestern is currently the third best team in the conference and there is plenty of potential for them to continue improving as the season moves forward.
2. Ohio State Buckeyes
Cardale Jones and J.T. Barrett both struggled for the Ohio State Buckeyes this past week against Northern Illinois. They ended up beating the Huskies just 20-13 at home and there are some major concerns surrounding whether or not the Buckeyes are actually the No. 1 ranked team in the nation.
Urban Meyer’s team is still one of the top teams in the nation, but as of right now they have to sit in the second spot in these rankings.
1. Michigan State Spartans
After trailing the Ohio State Buckeyes in second place through three weeks, Connor Cook and the Michigan State Spartans have finally made the jump to the top of the Big 10 rankings.
They may not finish the season at the top, but at this point in time they have proven themselves with the big victory over the Oregon Ducks.
Michigan State has a very talented all-around football team and are a team to keep an eye on as the college football playoff continues to draw closer.
