Baker Mayfield’s teammates start QB’s Heisman campaign

To call Texas Tech transfer Baker Mayfield an overwhelming success in Norman would be an understatement for the early season performance the Oklahoma Sooners quarterback has had.

Through three weeks, Mayfield has thrown for 1,062 yards and 10 touchdowns.

The Sooners are currently unbeaten.

In light of Mayfield’s strong performances on the field, one of his teammates, defensive lineman Du’Vonta Lampkin, took to Twitter in order to kick off a Heisman campaign for his team’s leader.

College Spun took notice of the tweet.

Currently, LSU Tigers running back Leonard Fournette is leading the Heisman race in the eyes of most experts.

However, Mayfield is strongly building a case of his own. If he can continue to perform well as the season continues and to capture the support of his teammates, Mayfield could see his name surging up the rankings.

Oklahoma and Mayfield return to the field on Oct. 3 against West Virginia at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman.
