Alabama running back Derrick Henry missed practice yesterday due to tonsillitis, but is expected back today. Matt Zenitz of of AL.com reported Henry’s illness on Twitter.
Fans can thus probably look forward to Henry being in uniform and ready to play this weekend against UL-Monroe, and Alabama would certainly love to have him on the field following last weekend’s heartbreaking loss to Ole Miss. A tough Rebels defense held Henry to 127 yards and one touchdown after he had scored three in each of his first two games, so having him explode for a big day in what should be a cupcake game should put himself, his teammates and fans at ease. On the season, Henry has rushed for 370 yards and seven touchdowns.
At the same time, however, tonsillitis is no joke. Henry is going to need his tonsils out at some point, hopefully not during the season, and recovery time in adults is usually two weeks. But Henry is tough and if there’s anybody that can play through it, it’s him.
Kickoff at Bryant-Denny Stadium is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on SEC Network.
