Frank Beamer calls East Carolina an exhibition game

Virginia Tech Hokies head coach Frank Beamer doesn’t seem to have any respect for teams that are not in the ACC.

Following Saturday’s loss to the East Carolina Pirates at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium — which dropped the Hokies to 2-2 on the season — Beamer sounded off on the opponent and he made some surprising comments.

In the eyes of Beamer, the game against the Pirates was nothing more than an exhibition game.

Ouch. That is pretty harsh.

To be fair to Beamer, he was caught up in the heat of the moment and he just went on to say what many people think.

Regardless of how talented a team is, when a team in one of the Power Five conferences schedules an opponent outside of those conferences, it is generally viewed as a cupcake game.

Don’t tell that to East Carolina, though, because they were ready and willing to play the role of the spoiler.

Perhaps Beamer should stop viewing games as “exhibitions” moving forward.
